Overview
HONOR THY MOTHER, A Soldier's Story, is a work of fiction inspired by true events. It is the story of the Kelly family who enjoyed a life of wealth and privilege earned from their great success in the food and restaurant businesses they owned in Jamaica, West Indies. However, by the late 1970s, after much agonizing, they are forced to migrate to America. Donald Kelly, the central character of the story, offends his parents by choosing to marry a beautiful girl from the wrong side of the tracks. Jennifer Kelly almost immediately disapproves of Anna Johnson, not because she places a wad of gum on her mother's fine china, but because she sees through the beautiful facade of a troubled woman. Don is subsequently disowned and disinherited by his parents when he adamantly refused to end his relationship with the woman with whom he has become besotted. With nowhere to turn, he makes a fateful decision to join the military where he studies to become a clinical psychologist. He completed basic training in Lackland, Texas, and meets Becky who becomes his best friend. After completing his final training in Bethesda, Maryland, he is deployed to the Spangdahlem Air Force base in Germany to complete his residency and start his practice specializing in the treatment of post traumatic stress disorder. The lives of Donald and Anna become even more complicated once they arrive in Germany. However, Donald doesn't understand the ramifications to his family life because of the complex personality of the woman he chose to marry and his obsession with the career he was destined to pursue. Honor Thy Mother, A Soldier's Story, explores the psychological, emotional and physical components of their relationship. It is Don Kelly's journey with its unexpected twists and turns, where nothing is what it seems and the suspense continually builds to a final, thrilling conclusion.

Suspense! Redemption! These are only a few of the themes explored in this fast-paced, page-turning tale that spans more than forty years and two continents. Don Kelly: Jamaican born, now American air force soldier, is a handsome psychologist totally dedicated to God, family and his chosen profession -- treating soldiers with PTSD. Anna Johnson: Jamaican beauty who lost both her parents at age ten and migrated to Queens, New York, to live with her maternal grandparents. She meets Don Kelly in a local park and he succumbs to her wily charms. Jennifer Kelly: Don's mother, is a successful entrepreneur, restaurateur-extraordinaire, who with her husband, Rex, sells their multi-million-dollar business and migrates with their son, to Jamaica Estates in Queens, New York. Rebecca Esposito: English-born beauty, with a Spanish father, Juan, and an English mother, LuAnn, becomes Don's best friend when they're thrown together for basic training at Lachland air force base, in San Antonio, Texas. Robert Jones: Debonair Italian-American mogul, bad-boy, confirmed bachelor, has no shortage of sophisticated prima donnas who grace the covers of the most exclusive magazines, who would die to be with him. HONOR THY MOTHER, A Soldier's Story, does not disappoint!
About the author
The youngest of three children, Sharon Falloon (nee Brown) was born in Westmoreland, Jamaica, West Indies, but most of her growing years were spent between the towns of Linstead and Kingston. The child of a Baptist minister and a very popular school teacher, Sharon attended a number of prestigious schools including St. Hugh's and Excelsior, in Kingston. Sharon also attended the University of the West Indies at Mona, where she earned a bachelor's degree in social sciences. In July, 1979, Sharon and her husband migrated to Queens, New York, where they reunited with their extended family. They had a daughter, their only child. In 1980, she ventured out to corporate America where she worked for more than 25 years in the areas of law and human resources. The journey was challenging but rewarding as she moved up the corporate ladder from the position of law clerk to becoming the head of the employment office for a major transportation company. During that time she completed her Master's degree in human resources and industrial relations at New York Institute of Technology at Westbury. In early 2010, Sharon finally acted on her passion for writing and composed her first novel, Honor Thy Mother, A Soldier's story, the first book in the Honor Thy Mother series. The book gave her a feeling of completeness that she had not experienced before. She dedicated it to her late brother, Basil "Bagga" Brown, a Jamaican icon of radio and television fame whose devotion to his mother was exemplary. Sharon is also the author of her first collection of poems, Life Crispies...come taste and see reality poetry, which is currently available in eBook format and, Three Kindred Souls, the second book in the Honor Thy Mother series, which is scheduled for release in the fall of 2013. All of Sharon's work is inspired by her deep Christian faith, which is reflected in her stories and poetry, but which does not put limitations on her depiction of reality as we function in a troubled world. Sharon resides on Long Island with her family.
