This lyrical novel is a beautiful story of love and loss. The poignant story of a young, East Texas girl's search for the true meaning of family, uncovers emotions and struggles often hidden from sight while dealing with a life that is always changing. Brenda Kay has been described as, "...naïve...and wise. A delightful combination reminiscent of Scout Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird". A sometimes funny, sometimes sad story of faith, hope, and determination, the mood and scenery of Honeysuckle Sippin' will pull readers of all ages and backgrounds into another era, and give them a new appreciation for the small things in life. This 5-star rated novel, set in 1953-1954, is available on this page, directly from the publisher, as well as Amazon, Barnes and Nobel, and other book sellers.

When the sunbeam shown through the kitchen door… her mama died. The death of her mother in 1953, just two years after losing her only brother, leaves twelve year old Brenda Kay fearful her daddy may be next. "Life's always changing," he says after all, and puts action to the words by dumping her on various relatives, winding up with Grandma and snuff-spitting Pappy in a little dead-end town. Brenda Kay expects the worst - loved ones tend to die when she's not looking - but Turney, TX, becomes a series of surprises, from a boy who seems to read her thoughts to a girl who smiles through her handicaps and a perceptive young "lady of the evening" who becomes Brenda Kay's friend. Things are looking up, but then Daddy shows up, and he has a girlfriend . . .
