A compiled family history dedicated in memory of Janet (Harpenau) Lemaire. Building on her decades of research, this book chronicles the earliest traces of the Hilgenhold name around the year 1600 down to Herman Hilgenhold (1855-1925). The second part includes all of his descendants, current as of November 28, 2021. The book is 614 pages in length, includes over 525 images, and contains the information of 1,056 descendants (1,606 with in-laws included).

Herman & Mary Hilgenhold: Family Origins & Descendants contains two parts.

Part I: Early History

• Earliest known history of the surname Hilgenhold (commonly spelled Hilgenholt) dating back to around the year 1600 near the Dutch-German border.
• The oldest verifiable ancestor line, from approximately 1760, that can be traced down to Herman Hilgenhold.
• United States immigration history of Heinrich Hilgenhold around 1854 followed by his mother and siblings in 1857.

Part II: Descendants of Herman and Mary (Bockhold) Hilgenhold

• This section outlines the 11 children of Herman & Mary and the 7 subsequent descendant lines up to present day. There are over one-thousand descendants recorded and hundreds of photographs featured in the book.
