Description

An unapologetic journey through the headspace of an author who hopes to lend strength to those who need it, Hats is a manifesto on life, love and all the other not so pretty parts of growing up. Hats uses words on a page to do what the voice often fails to do; say it out loud, accept it and keep living. When you find self-love, you often see where you are meant to be. Hats shows us just that, and it bursts with self-discovery in the form of essays, poetry, spoken word and raw truth. After many years of scrawling on napkins while working part time gigs and filling endless notebooks with musings and memories, Hats was finally born. There is so much possibility but also bountiful anxiety crammed into the pages of life as we experience it. This is one woman's journey through the fields of uncertainty via the sidewalks of New York City and beyond. In this long-awaited, reflective memoir from author Keri English, readers are invited to take a journey filled with all the pain and beauty that life has to offer whether we seek it or it hits us between the eyes. The story begins in recollection of things past, continues through a gritty exploration of mental health, love and loss, and finally lands on solid ground where it hopes to remain. Hats explores thirty something years of successes and failures, moments of breaking and ultimately healing for the right reasons. From the author: "Growing up a middle-class only child in New York, losing loved ones and facing obstacles as we all do, discovering the power of writing opened my eyes to the rest of the world. Writing is a catharsis; it is an anti-anxiety medicine in its best form. Writing has defined me; it has absolutely saved my life. It had allowed me to become an educator and a mother. Writing helped me see that there is love worth seeking everywhere and It has forced me to sit still, stop talking and just listen."
