About the author
George Jehn, after receiving his pilot certificates, first flew as a flight instructor and charter pilot, then as a captain for a commuter airline. He subsequently was hired by Eastern Airlines, and for approximately eighteen years—from 1970 until 1988—flew the Boeing 727, Douglas DC-9 and Airbus A-300 jets. When it became apparent that the airline was doomed, he left Eastern to work for another large airline until his retirement. While at Eastern Airlines, George spent six years as an elected pilot Master Executive Council Representative from Eastern’s New York pilot base and was simultaneously a six-year Member of the Board of Directors of the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), thelarge union that represented the Eastern pilots. He was also a Member of the Eastern Airlines System Board of Adjustment, the judicial body established under the Railway Labor Act to adjudicate pilot grievances. Additionally, he was the sole pilot Member of the Eastern Airlines Employee Involvement Committee for approximately two years until that committee was disbanded soon after Eastern came under the control of Frank Lorenzo’s Texas Air Corporation. George also founded and was the first editor of In Range, an ALPA magazine publication for the Eastern pilots. His writing credentials also include a popular novel entitled, Flying Too Close to the Sun, published in 2012 by Ring of Fire Publishing. Additionally, he has written a number of aviation op-ed pieces for Newsday, and has also had numerous articles that were published in The Fisherman, Salt Water Sportsman and Sport Fishing magazines. In addition to his writing, he also works part-time as an expert witness for a number of aviation law firms. You may reach George through his website, www.georgejehn.com.
