Description
Written by an award-winning author who challenged the gender gap in the hunting arena, FAN TALES is a collection of hilarious, bone-chilling, fun and exciting wild turkey hunting adventures and photographs. Stories of how Berdette Elaine Zastrow learned how to hunt turkeys and her first hunt in South Dakota's Black Hills to her turkey guiding episodes today in northeast South Dakota are chronicled. From the days of non-use of turkey decoys to today's myriad of available highly technological products, Zastrow has stories covering it all over her 28 years of wild turkey hunting in South Dakota, Missouri, New York and Iowa. The book includes stories of hunting with professional hunters, friends and relatives. Thirty photographs bring the turkey tales to life and tell stories on their own. Turkey Biology, information on National Wild Turkey Federation and two delicious wild turkey recipes are included in FAN TALES.
About the author
Berdette Elaine Zastrow grew up in South Dakota, enjoyed the outdoors, is an avid angler and hunter of big game and upland game. She is an award-winning outdoor writer and past President of Association of Great Lakes Outdoor Writers. Zastrow's passion to bring women and youth into the outdoor arena is legendary. Her goal is to promote the outdoors and outdoor traditions to all to ensure the perpetuation of this country's outdoor heritage. Her first book, WOMAN'S GUIDE TO HUNTING, was written for beginning hunters to learn skills needed to enjoy the outdoors. Now, FAN TALES brings wild turkey hunting alive with stories of Zastrow's love of hunting the big birds. She is a former South Dakota Department of Game, Fish and Parks commissioner which enticed her to become an avid fan of turkey hunting. Her passion is introducing new hunters to the world of wild turkeys, regardless of age. She and her husband live on Pickerel Lake, have two grown children and four grandsons, and she guides turkey hunts in northeast South Dakota.
