About the author
Mr. Lovell D. Davis has been in the healthcare field for approximately 20 years. For the past 8 years, he has served as the Director of Revenue Cycle Management for a large healthcare company in Richmond, VA. Under Mr. Davis' leadership, the Virginia Eye Institute has won the Healthcare Financial Management Association's (HFMA) MAP Award for high performance in revenue cycle in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020. Mr. Davis previously served as Director of Operations with Amerigroup Corporation (now a part of Anthem, Inc.) where he managed the Medical Claim Review Nurse Team, the Clinical Audit Review Team (comprised of nurse auditors and medical coders), and the Quality Improvement Team. His oversight included medical claims review operational responsibility for over 20 offices in several states. Mr. Davis served in several business office roles prior to his work at Amerigroup. He served as Director of Billing for Bostwick Laboratories, where he was responsible for bringing billing operations in-house from an outsourced vendor. As Director of Patient Accounts for the Richmond Ambulance Authority (RAA), Mr. Davis established a collections group that was responsible for collecting on bad debt accounts, thereby increasing cash collections by 30% within the first year. Prior to RAA, Mr. Davis was a Collections Team Coordinator/Unit Manager for Sentara Healthcare for 6 ½ years. Mr. Davis attended Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA and Strayer University in Washington DC and holds both a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration and a Masters Degree in Healthcare Administration. He is currently working on his Doctorate in Health Sciences from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, FL. He is also a Certified Professional Coder (CPC), a Certified Professional Biller (CPB), and a Certified Revenue Cycle Specialist (CRCS). Mr. Davis is also a sought-after speaker on various revenue cycle topics at national, regional, and local conferences.
