About the author

Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Sheila is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin where she studied English Literature and History. Long ago making Texas her home, she lives with her husband of many years and two Shih-Tzu’s - one of whom fancies himself a kitty-cat dog. (After all, he has been seen climbing and jumping fences when chasing rabbits...)
Settling into careers in banking and accounting, she never forgot her heart for writing as thoughts and dialogues, paragraphs and poems were put to paper then put aside, until a concept conceived in eighth grade made an unexpected, yet dogged reappearance. Set in eighteenth-century England and Colonial Virginia, Discovering Caroline is her debut novel.

Overview

Lady Caroline Stewart loves the enchanting life she lives on her father's ancestral estate in Yorkshire. But beyond those happy borders exists another world – one heavy with political strife and disputed kingships, failed risings and partisans seeking revenge. It is in this bitter mood Jacobite rebels, intent on seeing King James restored to England's throne, hatch a scheme to spirit Caroline away for the hefty ransom she will bring. Unaware of looming danger, she is stolen from a London street and put to sea. Stunned to find herself imprisoned aboard a vessel bound for some unknown end, she refuses to give fear a foothold, vowing instead to survive, to thresh out a way home.
