About the author

Jim Mohr was a small boy growing up in Central Wisconsin when the world of Cougar Reed was created. Ever since, even during his time in the military and the Persian Gulf War, the fictional world centering around the Wisconsin Illinois base loomed in his imagination. Over 25 years later, his wife Jennifer urged him to put pen to paper, and two three-book series were born. Now, in East-central Illinois, he spends his time writing, practicing his lumberjack skills, and caring for the three cats and the dog who share the couples' home.

Cougar's Roar

Overview

Cougar’s Roar is the first novel in the first series of three books (Imperium Series). In the world of the future, our way of life has degraded. We are no longer free to pursue wealth, fame, and prestige. In this future, survival is all that there is.

The nations of the world have squandered their economies and the economic catastrophe has brought them all to their knees. Unable to finance their own militaries, the powers of the world have enlisted private military companies to do their bidding. The companies themselves have become multinational, and extremely powerful.

The American English Alliance (United States, England, France, Canada, Australia) is fighting a losing war against the Euro-Asian Militaristic Society (EAMS) (Russia, China, Germany, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, and Romania).

It is into this world that a boy living in southern Wisconsin is thrust. A product of genetic research, Cougar Reed, battles his enemies while struggling against his own demons. A true antihero, Cougar learns that he is not the only product of genetic experimentation. There are others with darker, more evil intentions.

This novel is followed by Lion’s Pride. It will be followed by Taipans Strike. The subsequent series will focus solely on the war.

Description

At eight years old, the only world Cougar Reed has ever known is one where nations defend themselves through expatriated military contractors. But these contractors have begun to wage war on one another. Orphaned in the ensuing violence, Cougar is yanked from his home by The Resistance, a union of European and Asian countries whose goal is world conquest. As they work to mold his awakening psychic abilities, Cougar learns that he's not the only one with mind powers—and that there are others with darker, more evil intentions. After nine years in the custody of The Resistance, Cougar betrays his abductors and saves his childhood home from destruction. Armed with the knowledge gained from his time in captivity and his psychic powers, he seeks vengeance—but can he fight both the tyranny of The Resistance and the evil psychics at the same time while maintaining his sanity?

Could not put down It may take a little to get used to the writing style, but once you do you won't be able to put the book down. I found myself staying up until the early hours of the morning on multiple occasions reading this book. I cannot wait until the 2nd book in the series comes out Read more
