No one schedules an appointment with an Emergency Room Doctor. You meet one when life doesn't go as planned. Survival requires immediate dependence and trust in a stranger in a white coat. As soon as the imminent danger has passed— they are off to the next case. Many patients don't realize that their stories stay with those that served them. Patients have the most to teach about humility and humanity." Compassion Amidst the Chaos" is brimming with the tension, anguish, exhaustion, relief, gratitude, and compassion that are all part of a typical day at work in the ER. Travel with Dr. Chris Davis through the cases he remembers most from his 35-year career as an emergency medicine doctor.

Description
Over the course of a 35 year career as an Emergency Department Physician, Dr Davis has cared for over 100,000 patients. He has taught emergency medicine in the Washington DC area, the Pacific Northwest, and as guest faculty member in Laos, Bhutan, Cambodia and Uganda. This book follows his personal journey and lessons learned from his life caring for people in their most vulnerable moments. He shares his most memorable stories from the front lines of the emergency room, some uplifting, some tragic and some sharply funny. This book will give you a glimpse into the intensity, fear and satisfaction of the life of an ER doc.

Fast paced and interesting This book is such an interesting read! Each chapter tells an individual patient story so it is easy to pick up in short intervals, but it is also tempting to keep on going. You really get a sense of what it feels like to be responsible for a stranger's life in extreme situations. I was surprised to hear how much doctors can be effected by their patients ... I feel like I haven't heard that perspective told before. Compelling, thought provoking and entertaining. Read more
