Description
In a down-east land between the ocean and the mountains live Annie and her chickens in the yard. All-day long, from the moment Annie lets them out to wonder, we follow their actions all over the yard, the porch, the vegetable garden, and the grass. To be sure, there's a lot of pickin' and a-scratchin', a-runnin' and a hatchin' going on. This fully illustrated children's storybook introduces us to the chickens and shows us what happens daily in a sweet, funny, humorous way. Written in simple language, this book is the perfect length for read-aloud storytimes and is suitable for children 3 years and up. Children will want to read this book over and over again.
About the author
I write and draw under the pen and artist name Endreketta. A name given to me by my third-grade Spanish teacher in elementary school that has become my creative outlet. I have always enjoyed writing and drawing from an early age. Telling stories seems as natural as breathing to me. When my children were younger, our bedtime rituals nearly always included a quickly made up, off the top of my head tale to help them relax and fall asleep. I decided that I was going to write poetry and children's stories as a second career and have now realized that goal.

Reader's Favorite Review by Bruce Arrington Chickens In The Yard by Endreketta is an illustrated children’s book that is everything chicken. Annie’s yard is filled with them, and they not only rule the roost but the yard, the car, the porch, the deck, and everywhere else on the property! Sheltered in the coop at night and released outside during the day, they roam free, laying their eggs and living a chicken’s life to the fullest. I’ve raised various breeds of chickens for years growing up, and I easily related to the pictures and stories of the free-ranging hens. Each chicken has a different personality and yes, some of the hens will hide their eggs to keep them safe from the daily gathering. This book reflects that aspect very well. A number of different varieties are represented in the beautiful artwork, showing each hen’s individuality. And speaking of art, it is well done, providing plentiful detail and bright colors, setting off each page. This is a fun book to read with kids who are being introduced to chickens for the first time. It provides a realistic picture of what it takes to raise chickens, especially those that are free-range. You can’t corral ‘em like sheep or pigs, but they are tameable, and it’s obvious these fowls really captured the author’s heart. The book is easy to read, filled with personality, and captures the colorful daily lives of chickens. Chickens In The Yard by Endreketta is highly recommended for children and all who love farm animals. Read more
