Overview

We were very curious what the difference between an "overview" and a "description" was when we launched our book onto the interwebs. We decided there's not much difference so we simply made the sections similar... or even the same. Plus we're under a deadline to get the book out the door so why waste time with extra words... Then it dawned on us that we were already wasting time so we left this content in...

Cruft. It is useless information; it is defective code; it is wasted space. It is… the opposite of what's in this book—but we thought the title might catch your eye. In reality, this book is designed to help humans (that's you!) get rid of your cruft. When you're creating a marketing campaign, launching a new product, or a designing a website, you might be tempted to do too much—which results in wasted resources, scope over runs, and a dysfunctional strategy.

Is your team functioning at the highest level? Have you learned everything there is to learn? Then this book isn't for you. But if you're a normal human being, you probably have some growing to do—and that's where we come in. We won't let you settle for wasted space. In Cruft, we offer life hacks for everything under the marketing sun, including:

• Graphic design best practices

• Videography tips

• Content writing dos and don'ts

• Inbound marketing

• Strategy development

• All manner of web app and website delivery keys

• … and a lot more

This book is a hodgepodge guide to marketing success. We cover everything from simple design hacks to total rebrands—and we do it with a healthy dose of sarcasm and snark. Complete with beautiful graphics, short anecdotes, and simple how-to lists, Cruft is a one-stop-shop for all your strategic needs.

About the author

As the Managing Partner at Orange Marketing Group (OMG!), David spends most of his time trying to keep his employees from burning the place down—or worse, bringing their pets to work. ("That's what you get when you hire Millennials," he says.)

When he's not corralling his people, he's developing marketing campaigns for global corporations, generating demand for new product launches, and increasing revenue for a diverse set of clients—including cyber risk management organizations, software firms, healthcare systems, and orthopedic engineering companies.

Before David landed in Indiana (a decision he regrets to this day), he worked all over the country for companies like Microsoft and Verizon. Now, after almost a decade at Oranges, he has cultivated a team of out-of-the-box thinkers who are committed to exceptional outcomes for their clients.

David is always in search of the next big idea that will help clients stay ahead of their competition—and he always has an opinion on what you should do next, so if you want to tap into his expertise (and his ego confidence), reach out to dphelps@orangemktgroup.com.
