About the author
Charleen Carothers was born on January 29, 1980 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. She is a daughter of a Brazilian mother and an American Father. The combination allowed the author to experience both cultures including a lifelong exposure to the beautiful and poetic language of Portuguese. At six months old, Charleen and her family embarked on an incredible journey from Brazil to the United States. They traveled through Paraguay, Argentina, Bolivian, Ecuador, Panama, Guatemala and Mexico prior to arriving in Austin, Texas. Her mother, grandmother and aunt earned degrees in education, which later inspired Charleen to pursue a similar path. As a young adult, she attended the University of Texas, and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts and a teaching art certification. In 2007, she began her teaching Art career in Leander, Texas at Deer Creek Elementary school. Working in the field, she found a way to help her students understand famous works and styles. She used her creative skills to write poems about them. The results were positive and inspired her to keep developing her skills. She later wrote a poem that placed her in the semifinal round of Poetry Nation's National Amateur Poetry competition. The poem "Melting Clocks" will soon be published by Eber & Wein, publishing a book of semifinal poems in 2020. The accomplishment encouraged her to write a book of poems to inspire young artists called "Art Rhymes through the Times" in 2020. Charleen's plan is to continue working on her rhymes and eventually have them published by Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing. Outside of poetry Charleen enjoys her husband and her four siblings Cathleen, Calysia, Christopher, and Charles.
