Overview
These stories cover a fraction of who we are as African American males. They are a binding force that we can all identify with at some point in our lives. The extraordinary battle we have been subconsciously fighting has become a normal existence to us. This leaves a question that has yet to be answered: when will merely surviving no longer be enough?
Description
The tapestry of the black male is woven with an intricate pattern of strength, misery, courage, death, ambition, and self-hate. It seems that our plight has been as arduous as that of our forefathers that were shackled and stripped of their identity. In the present day these shackles exist only in our mind; all too often we are responsible for placing the limitations upon ourselves. However, even in our dimmest moments it is impossible to overlook the raw beauty and tenacity we have to survive through it all. These stories cover a fraction of who we are as African American males. They are a binding force that we can all identify with at some point in our lives. The extraordinary battle we have been subconsciously fighting has become a normal existence to us. This leaves a question that has yet to be answered: when will merely surviving no longer be enough?
About the author

Kevin spent a portion of his high school tenure in Lagos, Nigeria an unforgettable experience that changed the direction of his life, immensely. Upon his return to Houston with his new vision, Kevin ran track at Westbury High School where he completed his High School career and received a track scholarship to Jackson State University. There, he majored in Psychology and graduated with honors. He later became a member of the Baltimore County Fire Department Upon the passing of his father, Kevin returned to Houston, becoming the co-owner and acquisition specialist of Hestia Homes, LLC. He simultaneously turned to his entrepreneurial wits, founding his company Itima, LLC. His company handles a myriad of business opportunities and ventures ranging from international real-estate and local real estate to entertainment planning. Kevin’s first self-published work, E Ware Mumene is currently utilized in several different schools as a teaching tool. The most recent entity to incorporate the book into their learning curriculum is Jackson State University’s Department of Criminal Justice. When Kevin finds himself idle, he sticks to his passion of community outreach and enjoys speaking on platforms that engage young people in the sight of change. Kevin lives by the quote “knowledge is like a garden; if it is not cultivated, it cannot be harvested” and is continuing to further his educational endeavors. Kevin currently attends Houston Baptist University matriculating toward his Master’s degree in Psychology with an additional licensed professional certification for counselors. He hopes to continue his education to the doctoral level and start a private practice/non-profit that brings mental health services to the urban community.
