Overview

The numbers 0 to 9 are presented as the main characters of the story. The relationship of the numbers with each other is better understood by a child as Number 9 is seen as the largest number, while Zero the smallest. The story also uses this relationship to see what can happen when bullying enters the picture: the whole community suffers when bullying is allowed to flourish unchecked. But, also presented are friendships and loyalties, and...as always, life itself enters the picture. All ends well.

Description

Numbers ZerO to 9 have been living in a dark pit. The have never been able to escape this condition, but then they had learned to live with the situation. Over time, however, a change enters the lives of these numbers, and Number 9, being the biggest becomes a merciless bully. All numbers adjust to living with this bully. However, unchecked, Number 9 becomes totally irrational in its demands. Finally, one of the numbers decides to stand up to the bully. Things happen.

Emigrating from Latvia, Silvija D. Lechowick was raised and educated in America. A graduate of Case Western Reserve University, and a former psychiatric social worker, she now resides in Northeast Ohio with her numerous family members (7 of which are feral cats.)
