Excellent Book! ."My Grand mom shakes was an excellent book! It explains Parkinson’s disease, and how it can effect someone. It shows that everyone is different, but that we are all people. The book was thoughtful, and very interesting. Their book helps kids understand that there are some people who have an illness, and it explained it so kids can understand." Read more

My Grammy Shakes. Does Yours? A little girl makes an observation and asks an innocent question, "Does your Grammy shake too?" Granddaughter, Claire, sees the glass more than half full in her life with Grammy who has Parkinson's Disease, and she shares strategies she, along with her brother, use when Grammy needs help. The reader hears Claire's voice throughout the story. How wise because children listen especially well when their peers speak. The soft, creative illustrations compliment the text. Just enough information is provided about PD for the young reader, and even adults may be surprised to learn that boxing is one way Grammy and others fight Parkinson's. The story's quiet message is resilience. Read more

My Grammy Shakes, does yours? What a wonderful story to share with kids. It reinforces that what children observe is very real....but it doesn't translate into something to be frightened about. Grammy may shake, but it doesn't stop her from being the fun and loving grammy all grandkids love to be with. PD is a very real condition affecting so many family members. This book acknowledges some of the things grammy can't do and then sends a very positive message on all the positive things grammy can do. Grammy's shaking hasn't stopped her from being the greatest fun grammy to spend time with. I loved it! Read more
